If you’re a homeowner in this economy you’re likely trying to find little ways to cut expenses out of the budget.

Here are a few useful ideas.

  1. Compare banks and fees. If you paying monthly fees for your accounts, shop around for a better deal. Keep better track of your money if you’re frequently paying $20 to $30 or more for over draft charges and / or bounced check fees.
  2. Shop the dollar stores. For disposable items such as gift wrap, greeting cards, gift bags, or small household items, the dollar store is the place to save, even compared to discount stores.
  3. Review tax withholding. Do you routinely get a tax refund each year? In consultation with a financial professional, you may want to have less withheld from your pay checks so you have access to that money before next April.
  4. Consider generic and used. Think about buying a used car instead of new one. Consistently selecting generic food and drugs over name brands can also keep lots of cash in your packet.
  5. Reduce entertainment costs. Check out your local library. You may be surprised how many books , movies and music you can borrow for free compared to local and online store prices.
